Throughout the centuries we have been captivated by stories of legendary partnerships, people who were simply meant for each other. Experience two masterpieces depicting generational love and friendship. Puccini’s immortal La Bohème tells the story of the love between Rodolfo and Mimi, and Martinů’s astonishing Epic of Gilgamesh chronicles the mythological adventures of Gilgamesh and Enkidu, two true best friends challenging the gods.

Get to know the sopranos from COC’s Company-in-Residence, Opera 5: General Director Rachel Krehm and Programs Manager Jaclyn Grossman.

Both of these sopranos balance a life of performing and administration, and sometimes they even get together and sing a little! The program will feature some of their favourite music, along with a battle-royale of the absolute best "soprano" pieces of all time (did anyone say "mashup?"), proving that there are never Two Many Sopranos on stage!

Estacio – The Houses Stand Not Far Apart

A poignant program woven around themes of unity and optimism. Led by interim Music Director, Evan Mitchell, this concert opens with Ravel’s “Tombeau de Couperin”, a piece dedicated to a friend lost in the first World War. Beethoven’s infectiously joyful “Symphony No.2” and Canadian composer John Estacio’s “The Houses Stand Not Far Apart”, a deeply moving ode to peace, round out this final concert in the Voices series.

Rachel makes her COC debut as Big Sister in Ryan Trew’s Come Closer.

A moving new Canadian work from the COC’s Company-in-Residence invites audiences into an intimate exploration of love, loss, and healing.

Come Closer draws from soprano Rachel Krehm’s own experience of losing her sister, Elizabeth, and attempting to make sense of her grief.
