Come Closer
(2025)

Ryan Trew/Rachel Krehm
Big Sister
Opera 5

  • Krehm’s libretto is refreshingly direct, avoiding heavy-handed metaphor and both allowing an uncomplicated delivery and creating ample space for integrating her sister Elizabeth’s poetry quite sensitively.

    Jane Forner - Opera Canada

  • Rachel displayed an earnestness and confusion while seeking to understand what has gone amiss with her once happy younger sister. Her performance gave the drama that followed its solid core.

Boor About Town - Justin Irwin

  • The major event of the festival was the new two-act opera Come Closer, and I am delighted to declare from the start that it absolutely deserves a shelf life.

Ludwig van Toronto - Paula Citron
